Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about RemoteGuard.

What is a keyholder?

A keyholder is someone you give access to a specific lock. While the grant is active, they can lock or unlock it depending on range and status.

How do I share access to a lock?

Open the lock in the app, create an invite code and share it with the person. Once they redeem it, the lock appears in their keyholder view.

What does “access until” mean?

It defines how long the grant lasts. The time value itself can only be extended or removed, not shortened; ending the handover entirely is separate and always possible. Without a time, access stays active until it is returned or ended.

How do I end a key handover?

Either side can end it: the keyholder returns the key in their lock view, and the lock owner ends the handover from the lock menu. A set access time also ends it automatically when it runs out, returning control to the owner.

What happens when I block someone?

They can no longer send you key or chat requests, and any active key handover between you is ended right away. You manage blocked people under My profile > Blocked users.

Does unlocking work remotely?

Yes, when the lock owner's device is within Bluetooth range of the lock and the request is confirmed in the open app. RemoteGuard does not run guaranteed unattended remote unlocks.

What if the lock owner is not reachable?

The app shows a waiting or error status instead of unlocking without confirmation. Try again later or coordinate directly with the lock owner.

What is emergency opening?

Emergency opening can be triggered by the lock owner at any time to prevent harm or accidents. It is reported to the keyholder and logged. The exact technical action depends on the lock.

Can I use several locks and roles?

Yes. One account can manage its own locks and also be the keyholder for locks owned by other people.

Do I need a subscription?

You can try the demo lock for free. For remote locking and unlocking of real Bluetooth locks, the lock owner needs an active subscription.

I'm switching to a new device. Do I keep everything?

Yes. Just sign in on the new device with the same account, and your locks, grants and subscription are there right away. No repurchase is needed. You still manage your subscription in the store where you took it out.

I'm switching from Android to iPhone (or the other way). Do I keep my subscription?

Your access is tied to your account, not to the device. After signing in with the same account, your subscription is active on the other platform too, without a new purchase. You can only manage or cancel it where you took it out (Google Play or the App Store), and it cannot be transferred between the stores. Do not buy a second subscription on the new platform, or you will be charged twice.

When should I contact support?

Contact us if invites, Bluetooth connection, confirmation or your account do not work as expected. Please include which lock is affected, what you tried and what message was shown.
